A Desert Road Conversation: Jon Thurlow

In this second episode of "A Desert Conversation" I have a very interesting chat with Jon Thurlow, who describes himself as a writer, poet, and physiotherapist with an interest in the field of pain management. having also worked in pastoral ministry he has a deep interest in the intersection of spirituality, healing, and everyday life. Drawing on contemplative practices, liberation theology, and the earthy beauty of the natural world, he invites people to slow down, reflect, and discover the sacred in the ordinary.

During the conversation Jon is very open and honest about his period of self harm and depression which might be difficult for those who have suffered with their own mental health issues and might find this triggering.

Below are the books he referred to during the conversation as well as three books he has written:

"New Selected Poems" (1966-1987) by Seamus Heaney
"Exiles" by Michael Frost
"The Psalms" (The Message) by Eugene Peterson
"Jesus Christ for Today's World/The Crucified God" by Jürgen Moltnanns
"New Seeds of Contemplation" by Thomas Merton

Three books written by Jon:

Walking the Psalms: A Pilgrim's Field Guide

Pilgrim Prayers for Every Day : Prayers, Psalms and Reflections for the Journey

A First Aid Kit of Prayers: Prayers for When You Can't Find the Words
